Not shifted for inability: Shahara

Dhaka, Sep 17 Minister Shahara Khatun has said she does not believe that her inability to run the Home Ministry was the reason behind her being shifted to the Telecommunications Ministry.
"Not only my portfolio, there were changes in many," she told journalists on Monday after landing at the Shahjalal International Airport from a tour to the US.
Shahara, who hit headlines repeatedly for her comments as the Home Minister, also termed such changes in the Cabinet a 'regular' practice.
Her successor Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir and State Minister for Home Affairs Shamsul Hoque Tuku greeted the former Home Minister at the airport.
Praising Shahara for her activities, Alamgir said, "Shahara Khatun was the best Home Minister since 1975." He continued that in a parliamentary democracy, there could be changes in the Cabinet any time.
"It really does not matter who gets which portfolio," he added.
Responding to a query, Shahara said, "I never said that I am a successful Home Minister. The people are supposed to see what I have done."
She was under pressure in her party and outside for various comments she made in the media about law and order. Newsmen also demonstrated against her when despite her 48-hour deadline to nab the killers of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi, the law enforcers have failed to make a single arrest in the case.
The Cabinet got five new ministers and two new state ministers for the last year in rule after they were sworn in by the President on Thursday. They were given portfolios by the Prime Minister on Saturday.
