Thursday, September 13, 2012 Awami League leader Tofail Ahmed and President of Workers Party of Bangladesh Rashed Khan Menon have decided not to join the cabinet.
The key leaders in the Awami League-led 14-party alliance took the decision on Thursday hours after the government decided to reshuffle the cabinet by incorporating Menon, Tofail and five other senior leaders of the alliance.
"I am not joining the cabinet. I want to work for the party," Tofail told The Daily Star.
Earlier around 11:00am, Menon sat with his party's politburo members at the party office and decided not to join the cabinet, Bimol Biswas, a politburo member, confirmed.
With only a year left for the government before its term ends, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina decided to reshuffle the cabinet by incorporating seven new faces including Tofail and Menon.
The five other leaders are Hasanul Haque Inu, Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, Whip Mujibul Haque, Omor Faruk Chowdhury and Abdul Hyee.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President Inu is holding a meeting with his party members at the JSD office to decide about the government's offer.
Earlier in the morning, Bangabhaban confirmed that the new ministers and state ministers will take oath around 3:00pm today.
