Monday, September 10, 2012 ATN Bangla Chairman Mahfuzur Rahman on Monday filed a case against 59 journalists' leaders to bar them from holding a sit-in in front of his office protesting his alleged involvement in Sagar-Runi murder.
He also filed a petition with the First Joint District Judge's Court of Dhaka seeking ad interim injunction so that the electronic and printing media could not publish, format or make any defamatory statement regarding his alleged involvement with the murder.
Sagar Sarowar, a news editor at Maasranga, and his wife Meherun Runi, a senior reporter of ATN Bangla, were found murdered at their West Rajabazar residence on February 11.
After a hearing on the case, Judge Fazle Elahi Bhuiyan decided to pass an order on the issue later in the day.
Mahfuzur Rahman filed the case six days after journalists at a press conference demanded Mahfuzur's arrest for his “alleged involvement” in the murder of the journalist couple.
In the conference on September 4, the newsmen announced to hold sit-ins and rallies in front of ATN Bangla office in the capital's Karwan Bazar on September 16 and on the Jatiya Press Club premises on September 26.
On May 30, Mahfuzur, at a press briefing in London, claimed to have video footage that hinted at the motive behind the murder.
