BUET classes restart from Saturday

Dhaka, Sep 10 Classes at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) will resume from Saturday, more than two months after its teachers and students started demanding the removal of the Vice-Chancellor.
The leaders of the university's Teachers Association took the decision to return to classes in a meeting on Monday afternoon.
Earlier in the day, the students also agreed to go back to their studies after the Deans' Committee drew up a new academic calendar aiming to restart classes from Saturday.
Mohammad Asraful Islam, General Secretary of the Association, told bdnews24.com they took the decision since assurances made by the Education Minister are being implemented.
Engineering Faculty's Dean Muminal Haque had said in the morning, "We have prepared a new academic calendar targeting resumption of classes from Saturday. It will be given to the Vice-Chancellor tomorrow. On his approval it will be sent to the Registrar who will then publish it and issue a circular."

Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Sunday expressed hopes that the students would return to class as Pro-Vice Chancellor Habibur Rahman was removed as promised.
The university authorities also withdrew two cases filed against the students during the protests as per the minister's assurance to the demonstrators.
