CEC hopes BNP will trust EC

Dhaka, Sep 6  Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakib Uddin Ahmad has expressed his optimism over securing opposition BNP's confidence on the Election Commission as it plans to hold talks with the civil society, senior journalists and registered political parties on boundary demarcation and voter-list update for the next general elections.
The constitutional body will hold dialogue with civil society personalities on Thursday (Sep13) to work out a roadmap for the next parliamentary election.
This will be the first dialogue under the present Election Commission, led by Rakib Uddin Ahmad, who took over the charge of the independent election body on Feb 5 this year.
The CEC at a press briefing at the conference room of the EC Secretariat on Thursday said that boundary demarcation and voter list update would get priority during the talks.
The electoral watchdog will also sit for talks with senior journalists and the registered political parties in phases to have their opinion on holding a free, fair and credible election. However, the dates for holding talks with registered political parties are yet to be finalised.
The CEC expressed hope that the main opposition party BNP would respond positively to its invitation.
