Replying to Jatiya Party MP Hossain Makbul Shahriar's question in Parliament on Thursday, junior minister AB Tajul Islam said a database of freedom fighters was underway. "The work is progressing swiftly and it is hoped that there will be a genuine list by the end of the year once that database is complete."
Replying to another question from a treasury bench MP, Nurul Islam Shujon, the state minister said the ministry generally issued temporary certificates. "But there will be proper certificates complete with barcodes once the database is complete."
Tajul Islam replied to another question saying that there were 2,969 families of martyred freedom fighters currently.
To another question from M Abdul Latif, during Parliament's question time, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Faruk Khan said the government would review travel agency regulations and plans to make the law tougher.
Khan said the government already set up a committee and the regulations will be finalised once the committee submitted its report. "That will happen within this year, hopefully."
Environment
Mustafizur Rahman Fizar, the State Minister for Environment, answered a supplementary question on behalf of Minister Hasan Mahmud as to whether the government had any initiatives to make the water of rivers around Dhaka clearer.
"We need all round cooperation and it is not possible to embark on this task for the ministry alone."
Fizar told another questioner that sound pollution was a major health hazard. He said this menace had increased in almost all cities due to the widespread use of hydraulic horns.
To another question, the junior minister said according to a joint survey of the UNDP, there were 440 tigers in India and Bangladesh's Sundarbans with a density of one per every square kilometre, which was the highest in the world.
However, the government has had 100 ponds dug in the Sundarbans, to the south-west of Bangladesh, to ensure the supply of sweet water for the benefit of the tigers.
Land Minister Rezaul Karim Hira answered a treasury bench MP's question saying that the government owed Tk 9.87 billion worth of land taxes. But he said there were no dues from the people.
