Minister AFM Ruhal Haque said on Sunday that the medical and dental
admission for 2012-13 session will be held according to previous
admission system if the writ petition is withdrawn. However, if the writ petition is not withdrawn, the government will take decision as per the directives of the HC, the minister added.
The minister's comment came during a press briefing held after a meeting with aspiring medical students at the health ministry to resolve the ongoing stalemate brewing over the admission system.
A guardian of an admission seeker filed a writ petition with the High Court on August 14 challenging the government's decision not to hold admission tests for enrolling students at medical and dental colleges from the 2012-13 academic session. Instead, it opted to admit students on the basis of their GPAs achieved in the SSC and HSC examinations.
The aspiring medical students who came to meet the minister could not immediately confirm whether the writ petition will be withdrawn.
The minister also said the admission system for next sessions after 2012-13 will be decided on the basis of future developments.
Earlier, the health minister sat with the aspiring medical students at his secretariat office to resolve the crisis.
Eight representatives of both the groups-- against the government decision and agreed with the decision -- took part in the meeting.
State Minister for health Captain (retd) Mojibar Rahman Fakir, Health Department Director General Prof Dr Khandaker M Sefayet Ullah, Senior Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Ministry Md Humayun Kabir and
Bangladesh Medical Association Secretary General Dr Sarfuddin Ahmed among others attended the meeting.
