Robber killed in Noakhali 'shootout'

 

A leader of a robber gang was killed in a 'shootout' between his cohorts and Rapid Action Battalion members in Subarnachar upazila of Noakhali early Thursday.

The deceased is Nizam, ringleader of the robber gang locally known as Nizam Bahini, reports our Noakhali correspondent.
A Rab team conducted a drive in Centre Bazar area around 3:45am to arrest Nizam and his associates after receiving information that they took position in the area, said Colonel Zia, director of Rab-11.
Sensing their presence, the robbers opened fire on the elite force members, prompting them to fire back that triggered a 'gun battle', the Rab director said.
When all the robbers managed to flee the scene, the Rab members found the bullet-hit body of Nizam lying on the ground, he said.
They also recovered a foreign-made pistol and an airgun from the scene, he added.
Nizam was accused in 15 cases, including murders and extortions, filed with Char Jabbar and Hatia police stations.
