14-party forms human chain Jan 7

The ruling Awami League-led 14-party alliance will form human chains across the country on January 7 demanding immediate completion of war crimes trial and protesting, as it claimed, BNP-Jamaat conspiracy against it.
AL advisory council member Amir Hossain Amu announced the programme at a mass rally of the 14-party alliance in front of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Saturday afternoon.
AL leaders Tofail Ahmed, Matia Chowdhury and Workers Party of Bangladesh President Rashed Khan Menon vowed to foil whatever conspiracies BNP-Jamaat alliance hatch in home and abroad to save the war criminals.
The alliance leaders said they will continue to remain on the streets until the trial of war criminals is done.
After the rally, the alliance leaders and activists held a mass procession that ended at Suhrawardy Udyan after parading the streets near Noor Hossain Square, Paltan intersection, National Press Club and Matsya Bhaban.
The city dwellers experienced huge traffic congestion in many parts of the capital due to the rally.
Additional contingent of police were deployed in and around the rally venue.
Earlier, hundreds of leaders and activists of AL’s associate bodies including Jubo League, Chhatra League, Krishak League with banners, festoon, placards marched towards the national mosque to make the rally a success.
Meanwhile, the mass rallies in all divisional headquarters, district and upazila towns were held simultaneously in the afternoon.
Leaders of the ruling combine held a series of meetings for the last several days to make today's programmes a success.
The 14-party on Friday held a views-exchange meeting with its student and youth organisations at AL President Sheikh Hasina's political office in Dhanmondi with a view of making today's programme a success.
