A Jamaat activist was killed in a clash between BNP-led 18-party alliance supporters and Awami League men in Chauhali upazila of Sirajganj on Sunday morning.The deceased was identified as Wared Ali, 60, of the upazila, reports our Sirajganj correspondent.
The clash ensued around 10:00am when the opposition alliance with a procession confronted the supporters of ruling Awami League at Enayetpur, said Wahiduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Enayetpurt Police Station.
Wared, who sustained severe injuries during the clash, was rushed to Khawja Yunus Ali (R) Medical College and Hospital in Enayetpur, the OC added.
Doctors declared Wared dead around 10:30am.
Meanwhile, the incident of clash and violence were also reported from Narayanganj, Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi and Laxmipur.
NARAYANGANJ
BNP-Jamaat men torched a truck, a minibus and five motorbikes and also vandalised several other vehicles during a chase and counter-chase with police at Kanchpur on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
Police fired several rounds of gunshots and tear gas canisters to disperse them, leaving 20 people injured.
The blockade halted vehicular movement on the Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet highways since morning.
CHITTAGONG
Two police men were injured when 18-party alliance activists clashed with the law enforcers in Rangunia upazila around 9:00am, said Manjur Morshed, officer-in-charge of Rangunia Police Station.
Meanwhile, the pro-blockade activists put barricade and set fire to tyres at different points of the upazila and Sher Shah Colony under Bayezid Bostami Police Station in the morning.
Commuters have been suffering since 6:00am as bus services remained suspended at Kadamtoli and Bahaddarhat bus terminals following the blockade.
KHULNA
At Least 25 people were injured when pro-blockade activists clashed with policemen in Daulatpur area of Khulna around 7:30am.
During the one-and-a-half-hour clash, police lobbed around 20 teargas shells and fired 25 rounds of rubber bullets to disperse the demonstrators.
Of the injured, 10 bullet-hit were admitted at Khulna Medical College Hospital while the condition of three was stated to be critical.
Police arrested three pro-blockade activists from the spot.
RAJSHAHI
The pro-blockade activists vandalised four vehicles in Belpukur area of Puthia upazila on Dhaka-Rajshahi highway.
Chase and counter chase also took place as between the pro-blockade activists and their rival at Binodpur area of Rajshahi city.
LAXMIPUR
At least 20 people were injured including three by bullets during separate clashes among the activists of BNP and Awami League and law enforcers at Joksin Bazar, Charchamita and Ramganj upazila in Sadar upazila.
The pro-blockade activists also vandalised 11 trucks and buses during the clashes.
Jubo Dal president of Ramganj upazila unit Giasuddin Palash, who were among the injured, were sent to Dhaka in critical condition.
The three bullet-hit persons are Mostak, student of Laxmipur Polytechnic, and Mizan and Azad, helper and supervisor of Dhaka Express and Grameen Paribahan.
