Police on Tuesday sought 14-day remand for BNP acting secretary
general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in two cases filed against him with
the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and Paltan police stations.
Earlier in the day, a Dhaka court placed 57 activists of the BNP-led 18-party on a three-day remand each in a case filed for exploding cocktails and preventing police from discharging their duties in the city’s Paltan area during Sunday’ road blockade.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ali Hussain passed the order after Paltan police produced them before it with a seven-day remand prayer for each of them.
A day after filing a case against Fakhrul in connection with Sunday's violence, police on Monday arrested him, when he was leaving the party's Nayapaltan office in the evening.
Police also arrested 30 BNP activists from in front of the party office in the capital.
At least 38 cases have been filed with different police stations in the capital alone in connection with arson, vandalism and rampage during Sunday's road blockade by the opposition alliance.
