The proceedings of ICT-1 have become illegal and unconstitutional following the Skype conversation between its former chairman justice Nizamul Huq and expatriate Bangladeshi legal expert Dr Ziauddin Ahmed relating to the proceedings, the lawyers added.
Moudud Ahmed, a senior pro-BNP lawyer, as a spokesperson told this at a press conference at the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) auditorium in the afternoon.
He said Nizamul Huq has violated his oath and committed criminal offence by holding Skype conversation about the ongoing trial proceedings.
He appealed to President Zillur Rahman to remove Justice Nizamul Huq from the office of the High Court (HC) judge through formation of a Supreme Judicial Council.
Moudud said if the government appoint a new chairman for ICT-1 and it resume the trial proceedings from its existing position that will not be acceptable to the nation.
The BNP leader said the ICT-1 should have to hold the trial proceedings from the starting position to ensure transparency and maintaining international standard.
Pro-Jamaat-e-Islami lawyer Barrister Abdur Razzak who was present at the briefing demanded an international judicial inquiry into the incident of Skype conversation.
Justice Md Nizamul Huq resigned on Tuesday amid controversy over the leak of his Skype conversation with an expatriate Bangladeshi legal expert.
