Mujahidul
Islam Selim, president of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), on
Tuesday claimed that public support has made today's hartal a successful
one. People across the country are observing the hartal spontaneously as they support the demands for what the CPB and Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) enforced the strike, the CPB president said.
He was addressing a pro-hartal rally at Paltan intersection during the daylong hartal.
CPB and BSD called the hartal demanding a ban on Jamaat politics, ensuring speedy war crimes trial and trial of those responsible for Tazreen Fashions fire incident.
The CPB president said today's hartal weakened the ongoing conspiracy for foiling the war crimes trial.
"Today's hartal set an example of peaceful movement for realising demands without any violence," the CPB leader said.
The CPB leaders also claimed that ruling Awami League and law enforcers attacked pro-hartal processions in different districts including Magura, Netrakona and Sunamganj.
The next course of action will be declared at a press briefing in the afternoon, he added.
At the rally, Khalequzzaman, general secretary of BSD, said the ruling Awami League and all the bourgeois parties are involved with religion-based politics.
"Our demonstration is against those parties," he said.
