Emdadul too admits killing Bishwajit
In
this December 9 photo, “Chhatra League activists” beat and hack a youth
named Bishwajit, mistaking him for an opposition supporter in front of
Victoria Park in Old Dhaka.
Another accused in Bishwajit Das murder case admitted his involvement with the killing before a magistrate in Dhaka on Sunday.In his statement, Emdadul Haque said he was an active activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League and an aspirant of president or general secretary of Jagannath University unit.
Emdadul said he beat Bishwajit with an iron rod taking him for a Shibir activist as he wanted to come to limelight to get a vital post in BCL, a student body backed by the ruling Awami League.
Before attaching Bishwajit, he beat up some pro-opposition lawyers and some Islami Chhatra Shibir activists near Ray Saheb Bazar area, he said while giving statement before Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan.
Earlier on December 23, three accused -- Mahfuzur Rahman Nahid, GM Rasheduzzaman Shaon and Rafiqul Islam Shakil -- confessed to the killing of 24-year old tailor Bishwajit Das.
Taking Bishwajit for a pro-blockade activist during the BNP-led 18-party countrywide blockade on December 9, a group of Chhatra League activists of Jagannath University swooped on him around 9:00am on his way to work.
The victim was declared dead at Mitford Hospital around 10:00am on the day.
