Emdadul too admits killing Bishwajit

 
In this December 9 photo, “Chhatra League activists” beat and hack a youth named Bishwajit, mistaking him for an opposition supporter in front of Victoria Park in Old Dhaka. 
Another accused in Bishwajit Das murder case admitted his involvement with the killing before a magistrate in Dhaka on Sunday.
In his statement, Emdadul Haque said he was an active activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League and an aspirant of president or general secretary of Jagannath University unit.
Emdadul said he beat Bishwajit with an iron rod taking him for a Shibir activist as he wanted to come to limelight to get a vital post in BCL, a student body backed by the ruling Awami League.
Before attaching Bishwajit, he beat up some pro-opposition lawyers and some Islami Chhatra Shibir activists near Ray Saheb Bazar area, he said while giving statement before Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan.
Earlier on December 23, three accused -- Mahfuzur Rahman Nahid, GM Rasheduzzaman Shaon and Rafiqul Islam Shakil -- confessed to the killing of 24-year old tailor Bishwajit Das.
Taking Bishwajit for a pro-blockade activist during the BNP-led 18-party countrywide blockade on December 9, a group of Chhatra League activists of Jagannath University swooped on him around 9:00am on his way to work.
The victim was declared dead at Mitford Hospital around 10:00am on the day.

Bishwajit killer Shakil remanded

A Dhaka court on Sunday placed Rafiqul Islam Shakil, the key accused of Bishwajit Das killing case, on an eight-day remand. Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Erfan Ullah passed the order after Tajul Islam, an inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of Police, produced Shakil before it seeking a 10-day remand. In the forwarding report, Tajul Islam, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, said Shakil is the prime accused in the case. They identified Shakil from photos and video footages of the murder scene where Shakil hacked Bishwajit with a machete on December 9 in Sutrapur of Old Dhaka. So, the accused need to be remanded to find out vital clues about the killing and the whereabouts of their other accomplices responsible for committing such offence, the IO said. 78.67pc pass HSC exam

Dhaka, Jul 18 This year 78.67 percent has passed the Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent examinations and 61,162 got GPA-5. The Education Minister Nurul Islam has submitted a copy of the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganabhaban Wednesday morning. Chairmen of different education boards were present there. Last year, 75.08 percent passed the HSC and equivalent examinations and 39,759 got GPA-5. This year Sylhet board has the highest passing rate of 85.37 percent. Dhaka board follows with 81.89 percent, Comilla with 74.56, Rajshahi 78.44 percent, Dinajpur 75.41 percent, Chittagong 72.29 percent, Jessore 67.87 percent and Barisal with 66.98 percent. The pass rate under the Madrasah board is 91.77 percent while the vocational board has 84.32 percent successful students. Sircar, Akhtar Hamid get bail

  (L-R) Former speaker Jamir Uddin Sircar and former deputy speaker Akhtar Hamid Siddiqui A Dhaka court on Thursday granted bail to former speaker Jamir Uddin Sircar and former deputy speaker Akhtar Hamid Siddiqui in four graft cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission. Judge Mohammad Zahirul Haque of the Senior Special Judges' Court in Dhaka granted them bail after they surrendered before the court in the morning and sought bail in the cases. The court fixed January 10 for passing an order on whether it would take the charges into cognisance. The ACC on December 28, 2010 filed the cases with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. The anti-graft watchdog pressed charges against Jamir Uddin and Akhtar Hamid on November 7 and 8 this year respectively.
