Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Wednesday said he believes that no corruption took place in Padma bridge project and construction of the much-talked about bridge would start within the government’s tenure.
“At least the work of laying foundation stone would start and some construction work would also be stared during the tenure of the government,” the finance minister said.
The finance minister told this to journalists after a meeting of the purchase committee held at the cabinet division in the afternoon.
Replying to a query on co-financiers, Muhith said the bridge will be constructed under co-financing arrangements. But he did not mention any co-financier’s name exactly.
About filing case by the Anti-Corruption Commission against seven people for conspiring to commit bribery, he said those people had tried to give the construction order to a particular party, so they were sued.
Since allegations against former communications minister Syed Abul Hossain and former state minister for foreign affairs Abul Hasan Chowdhury were not proved, they were not included in the case.
