A
man was killed and 14 were injured in a clash between the supporters of
two defeated councillor aspirants in Thursday's Rangpur City
Corporation election in the city on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Dalim Hossain, reports our Rangpur correspondent.
The clash was a sequel to previous day’s altercation between two councillor aspirants -- Belal Hossain and Shamsul Alam -- of Word No. 31 at Kishamat-Bishu area of the city over losing the race, said Altaf Hossain, officer in-charge of Rangpur Kotwali Police Station.
Equipped with bamboo sticks, the supporters of Shamsul launched an attack on Belal's residence around noon that triggered a clash between the two groups.
At least 15 people of both groups sustained injuries during the clash.
Seven of them were taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where Dalim, a supporter of Belal, succumbed to his injuries at 5:00pm.
