Dhaka, Oct 4 The United Arab Emirates has enforced a temporary halt on issuing visas to Bangladeshis because of 'security concerns over identification and fake documents'.
Foreign Ministry's West Asia Wing Director General Mohammad Nazrul Islam told bdnews24.com on Thursday, "Our Ambassador there, Mr Nazmul Kownine, and Dubai's Consul General Mohammad Abu Zafar alerted the Foreign and Expatriates Welfare ministries about the matter."
"They told us that the bar is temporary. We have already initiated procedures to solve the issues there," he added.
Meanwhile, Middle East-based news outlet Gulf News, on Wednesday, quoted UAE Interior Ministry's Assistant Undersecretary (Naturalisation and Residency and Port Affairs) Maj Gen Nasser Al Awadi Al Menhali also saying that the suspension was temporary.
He also reportedly confirmed that no visas of any kind would be issued for those holding Bangladeshi passports and that the bar would be lifted once a number of 'issues' were 'resolved' by the Government of Bangladesh.
Mehnali also allayed possible panic among Bangladeshis already holding UAE visa, "We are not issuing any new visa to Bangladeshis but we are renewing for those who already have resident visa."
He continued that their concern was over the validity of passports as recently there were many cases of Bangladeshi nationals trying to enter the UAE on forged documents.
