Barrister Moudud Ahmed
The
High Court (HC) on Sunday cleared the way for continuing the
proceedings of a corruption case filed against former BNP law minister
Moudud Ahmed.Today's verdict came following a Supreme Court order that directed the HC to hear and dispose of by October 7 a rule issued on the legality of proceedings of the case.
The HC also vacated its earlier order that stayed the proceedings of the case after rejecting a Moudud's petition filed on January 29 for quashing the proceedings.
The court today also discharged its earlier rule issued upon the Anti-Corruption Commission and government seeking their explanation about why the proceedings of the case should not be quashed.
ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star that there is no legal bar to proceed with the case against Moudud following the HC verdict.
The ACC on September 16, 2007 filed the case with Gulshan Police Station against the former minister on charge of amassing illegal wealth worth of Tk 7.38 crore and concealing information about his wealth worth of Tk 4.4 crore.
