In this October 9 photo, two female students injured in BCL attack at Bangladesh Agricultural University are being taken to hospital.
The High Court on Thursday stayed till November 15 a Bangladesh Agricultural University's (BAU) decision that expelled nine students for one semester.
In response to a writ petition, the court also issued a rule upon the university authorities to explain in three weeks why its decision to expel the nine students should not be declared illegal.
It also directed the university authorities to allow the expelled students to participate in all examinations.
An HC bench of Justice Mohammad Bazlur Rahman and Justice Md Ruhul Quddus came up with the order and the rule after hearing the writ petition jointly filed by the nine students challenging the authorities’ decision to expel them.
On October 15, the university authorities expelled the students who are the leaders and workers of Samajtantrik Chhatra Front (SCF) as they were waging movements against the university authorities for increasing the admission fee from Tk 1,800 to Tk 6,500.
Petitioners' lawyer advocate AKM Hafizul Alam told The Daily Star that the university Proctor MA Salam along with the Bangladesh Chhatra League activists attacked a peaceful programme of SCF on the campus in Mymensingh on October 9 which were published in different newspapers.
But the university authorities filed a case against the nine students and also expelled them from the university illegally, he said.
