Hearing now Jan 24, Khaleda appears in court today
Judge Mohammad Mozammel Hossain of Special Judge's Court-3 passed the order after Khaleda's lawyer Moudud Ahmed submitted a petition seeking adjournment of the hearing.
In the petition, Moudud said they had earlier file a leave to appeal petition with the Supreme Court challenging the legality of a High Court order passed on December 14 last year.
The HC on that day ordered that the proceedings against Khaleda and other accused will continue at the trial court.
The Appellate Division October 8 fixed January 10 next year for hearing the leave to appeal petition. So the hearing on charge framing should be adjourned, Moudud said.
Judge Mohammad Mozammel Hossain today also ordered the defence to submit any order from the Appellate Division on January 24.
Judge Mohammad Mozammel Hossain of Special Judge's Court-3 started the day's proceedings in a crowded courtroom around 1:15pm.
When she arrived at the court at 1:05pm, thousands of party supporters and onlookers had already gathered at the court premises and on the streets. The gathering spilled over into Victoria Park in Gulisthan.
The same court on September 13 set today for hearing on charge framing against Khaleda.
The other accused are Khaleda's eldest son Tarique Rahman, former principal secretary Dr Kamal Uddin Siddique, former BNP lawmaker Kazi Salimul Haque, businessman Sharfuddin Ahmed and Momenur Rahman, nephew of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
Salimul and Sharfuddin were present in the court while Tarique is undergoing treatment abroad and Kamal and Momenur are on the run.
Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case with Ramna Police Station on July 3, 2009 accusing the seven of embezzling over Tk 2.10 crore by forming the “fake” trust.
