Journalist leaders on Monday set a fresh deadline till November 24 for the arrest of the 'real killer(s)' of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.
They also stressed the need for proper investigation into the motive of the killings.
"If the real killers are not arrested by November 24 after a proper investigation into the motive of the killing, journalists will hold a grand rally on November 25 in front of Jatiya Press Club," said Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, president of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), at a press conference on Monday.
Sagar Sarwar, news editor of private channel Maasranga Television, and his wife Mehrun Runi, senior reporter of TV channel ATN Bangla, were killed in their West Rajabazar home in the city on February 11.
During Monday's briefing, Iqbal Sobhan also wanted an answer to the question, who are the mastermind of the killings against the backdrop of the press briefing of Home Minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir.
On October 9, the home minister named seven suspects in the brutal murder of the journalist couple.
As four of the arrestees are professional killers, the journalist community wanted to know who used them to kill the couple and what was their motive, Iqbal Sobhan said.
The journalist leaders also declared to hold a rally in front of Jatiya Press Club on November 8 to press home their various demands.
The demands include: right of establishing trade union in all media houses, regular salary based on journalists' wage board and payment of arrears.
Ruhul Amin Gazi, president of another faction of the BFUJ, among other journalist leaders also spoke on the occasion.
