Suranjit wants TIB study investigated

Dhaka, Oct 17 Minister without Portfolio Suranjit Sengupta on Wednesday proposed a parliamentary committee look into how much transparent the Transparency International, Bangladesh's study on activities of the MPs was.
"I urge the Speaker to immediately form an investigation committee in line with the Rules of Procedure of Parliament," he said at a discussion in the capital.
Terming the TIB report 'motivated and imaginary', the ruling Awami League Advisory Council member said the parliamentary panel will prepare a report based on information gleaned from TIB.
"Then we will be able to reach a decision after discussing the report in the next parliament session."
After conducting a 'survey' on 149 MPs, the Bangladesh chapter of the Berlin-based anticorruption watchdog on Sunday published the report where it said 97 percent of the MPs were directly involved in 'negative activities'.
The Awami League has rejected the report, saying it was prepared to malign the politicians and pave the way for unelected people to come to power. But the main opposition BNP said the survey was applicable to only ruling party MPs.
Criticising the TIB report, Suranjit on Wednesday said any crime investigation report must be prepared on the basis of certain criteria, information and through proper analysis.
"I am being forced to say that it did not happen when it comes to the TIB report."
He also said accusing all public representatives at once based on only some people's opinion cannot be a responsible act.
The former Railway Minister said Parliament should take initiatives to determine the transparency of the TIB report, but not decide whether to accept or reject it.
