2 medical students die in Habiganj road crash

Four people including two students of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College have been killed and 40 injured in separate road accidents in Habiganj and Chittagong.
In Habiganj, three persons including the two students died after a Cox's Bazar-bound bus hit a pedestrian and overturned on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Nabiganj upazila around 11:45pm Thursday.
Following the accident, agitated locals vandalised some buses on the highway, reports our Sylhet correspondent quoting Rafiqul Islam, inspector of Shayestaganj Highway Police Station.
Pedestrian Abdul Mazid, 30, of Sadarghat village in the upazila died on the spot, Rafiqul said.
On information, firefighters rushed to the spot and recovered the body of medical student Mainuddin Khan from inside the bus while Shahidul Islam, another student was declared dead at the hospital later.
Dr Ehtesham ul Haquye Chowdhury, deputy director of the medical college hospital, said Shahidul Islam hailed from Feni and Mainuddin from Lakshmipur.
The injured were admitted to the hospital.
In Chittagong, Mohammed Shaon Hawladar, 27, was killed as a truck ran him over on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at Sitakundu upazila early Friday.
Shaon hailed from Niamoti village in Bakergonj upazila of Barisal district, reports our Chittagong correspondent.
The truck knocked Shaon down when he was crossing the road in front of Kashem Jute Mills of Kadam Rasul area in Sitakunda upazila around 4:20am.
He was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where on-duty doctors declared him dead, said Constable Shamsul Islam of CMCH police outpost.
