Mahmud, managing director of Hall-Mark Group, and another top official
of the controversial firm were remanded on a 24-day in three cases in
connection with the Sonali Bank loan scam.Tanvir, meanwhile, in an arms case was also placed on a five-day police remand.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Erfan Ullah of Dhaka granted the remand for eight days in each of the three cases after the Anti-Corruption Commission sought a 110-day remand for each of them in a total of 11 cases.
The remand prayers in eight other cases were waiting for hearing at the court.
The other Hall-Mark official is Tusher Ahmed, general manager (commercial) and also husband of Tanvir's sister-in-law.
Tanvir and Tusher were taken to the ACC's Segunbagicha office from Ramna Police Station around 1:20pm to quiz them in connection with 11 cases filed against them for misappropriating Tk 1,568 crore.
After the interrogation, the law enforcers along with the duo started for a court around 3:15pm.
The ACC filed the cases against 27 officials of Hall-Mark including Tanvir and state-owned Sonali Bank with Ramna Police Station on October 4.
Hours after the arrest of Tanvir and Tusher, six ACC officials submitted 11 separate prayers with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka in the afternoon seeking 110 days' remand for the duo.

The elite force on Monday filed a case against Tanvir with Pallabi Police Station for illegally possessing the gun and bullets.
According to an audit report, the Ruposhi Bangla Hotel branch of Sonali Bank had disbursed Tk 3,606 crore in loan to Hall-Mark Group and five other companies defying banking rules.
The Bangladesh Bank also revealed massive irregularities in the sanctioning and disbursing of loans, especially to the little-known Hall-Mark Group.

Metropolitan Magistrate Keshab Roy Chowdhury of Dhaka granted the remand for Tanvir in response to a 10-day remand prayer.
Law enforcers sued the Hall-Mark managing director in two more cases hours after he was arrested along with a pistol, four bullets and a magazine in Pallabi area of the capital Sunday night.
Deputy Assistant Director of Rapid Action Battalion Lutfar Rahman filed one of the two cases with Pallabi Police Station early Monday on charge of possessing a gun, bullets and magazines illegally, Abdul Latif, officer-in-charge of the police station, told The Daily Star.
The other case was filed with Savar Police Station by another Rab official Sunday night for preventing police in discharging their duties and attacking law enforcers during a drive in the Hall-Mark's factories in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital.
Tanvir, Tusher and 500 unknown persons have been made accused in the case, Savar police said.
