Standing Committee Member Moudud Ahmed alleged on Saturday that the
government is trying to get more attention of the international
community using the slogan of militancy in Ramu violence. He also accused the government of instigating the Ramu violence.
"Despite being repeatedly informed, the prime minister did not take any action to quell the violence in Ramu of Cox's Bazar," Moudud said while addressing a programme at Diploma Engineers Institute in the capital.
The programme was organised commemorating the memory of eminent journalist Ataus Samad and former lawmaker Sayeed Iskander, also brother of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The BNP leader claimed that the prime minister has attacked him personally after BNP released its investigation report on Ramu violence where mobs destroyed 12 monasteries and 50 houses on September 29.
The violence was triggered following tagging of a photo that allegedly defamed the holy Quran on a Facebook account of a local Buddhist person.
An eight-member investigation team of BNP led by Moudud on Friday has found government's indirect provocation in the mayhem.
Moudud said there were 14 corruption cases against Sheikh Hasina, which she had managed to withdraw after assuming power in 2008.
If the trials were held lawfully, she might have got 108 years of imprisonment, he said.
"But the cases filed against me were withdrawn by the courts. I did not appeal for it," he said.
About the PM's comments about the opposition and eminent personalities including Dr Mohammad Yunus, he said the Awami League supporters also sometimes feel embarrassed due to her 'disgraceful' comments.
