Crimes Tribunal-1 on Tuesday permitted 12 witnesses to defend
Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Ghulam Azam for his alleged crimes against
humanity committed during the 1971 Liberation War.The tribunal also asked the defence lawyer to submit a list of the witnesses before it within October 14.
The three-member tribunal headed by Justice Md Nizamul Huq came up with the order following a prosecution petition.
The prosecution on Monday submitted a petition before the court seeking cancellation of defence witnesses' list that contains the names of 2,939 people.
Ghulam Azam was arrested and sent to jail on January 11 for his alleged crimes against humanity.
He is charged for committing crimes against humanity, genocide and war crimes in 1971.
