Mahmud, managing director of Hall-Mark Group, have been sued in two
more cases hours after he was arrested along with a pistol, four bullets
and a magazine in Pallabi area of the capital Sunday night. Deputy Assistant Director of Rapid Action Battalion Lutfar Rahman filed one of the two cases with Pallabi Police Station early Monday on charge of possessing a gun, bullets and magazines illegally, Abdul Latif, officer-in-charge of the police station, told The Daily Star.
The other case was filed with Savar Police Station by another Rab official Sunday night for preventing police in discharging their duties and attacking law enforcers during a drive in the Hall-Mark's factories in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital.
Tanvir, Tushar Ahmed, general manager (commercial) and also husband of Tanvir's sister-in-law, and 500 unknown persons have been made accused in the case, Savar police said.
Rab personnel arrested Tanvir and Tushar in Pallabi area Sunday night along with the gun, bullets and magazine in connection with the Sonali Bank loan scam.
They will be produced before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Erfan Ullah in the afternoon.
Arrested on the ACC's request, Tanvir and Tushar were in Ramna police custody as the ACC filed 11 cases against them on October 4 with Ramna Police Station for misappropriating Tk 1,568 crore, OC Lutfar Rahman said.
Twenty-seven officials of Hall-Mark and state-owned Sonali Bank have been made accused in the cases filed under the Money Laundering Prevention Act and the Corruption Prevention Act.
Of the accused, seven are Hall-Mark officials, including Tanvir, while the rest are Sonali Bank officials, including its former managing director Humayun Kabir.
Later, the arrestees were taken to the ACC's Segunbagichha office where they were quizzed for more than an hour.
According to an audit report, the Ruposhi Bangla Hotel branch of Sonali Bank had disbursed Tk 3,606 crore in loan to Hall-Mark Group and five other companies defying banking rules.
The Bangladesh Bank also revealed massive irregularities in the sanctioning and disbursing of loans, especially to the little-known Hall-Mark Group.
