Dhaka, Oct 19 The detained Hall-Mark Group's Chairperson, Jesmin Islam, has been taken to the Anti-Corruption Commission for grilling over the massive loan scandal involving the Sonali Bank.
ACC Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told bdnews24.com the ACC officials were about to start interrogating Islam, also the wife of the Group's detained Managing Director Tanvir Mahmud, after she reached the ACC headquaters in Shegunbagicha around 12pm.
ACC Senior Deputy Director Mir Mohammad Zainul Abedin Shibli, the head of the six-strong probe team, said Jesmin would be produced before the court with a remand prayer for her later.
The Rapid Action Battalion arrested Islam in Manikganj town around 7pm on Thursday.
RAB Spokesman Commander M Sohail told bdnews24.com that Islam was hiding in one of his employees' residence.
Her arrest follows the detention of Mahmud and General Manager Tusher Ahmed on Oct 7.
Former Manager of Sonali Bank's Ruposhi Bangla Hotel branch AKM Azizur Rahman, currently a Deputy General Manager of the bank, was also detained over the scam after the ACC accused 27 people, including the arrestees, in 11 corruption cases.
Rahman was the Manager of the branch when the loan was sanctioned to the Hall-Mark Group.
Seven of the accused are Hall-Mark top officials while the rest are Sonali Bank personnel.
A Bangladesh Bank audit in May this year revealed that the Group borrowed over Tk 26 billion from the bank's Ruposhi Bangla Hotel branch violating rules.
The Sonali Bank has already suspended its 20 officials, including two general managers, over the scam.
The ACC is grilling Tanvir and Rahman.
