Dhaka, Aug 4 The Awami League was ready for talks with the opposition should it respond positively to the Prime Minister's proposal on polls-time interim government, the party's spokesman said on Saturday.
"We hope that they (BNP) would positively respond on the Prime Minister's proposal that she made during an interview with the BBC recently," Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said at 'Meet the Reporters' arranged by Dhaka Reporters Unity on Saturday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the interview had said the opposition BNP could join the interim cabinet to be constituted ahead of the next parliamentary polls. She expressed her unwillingness to hand over state affairs to an unelected government.
But BNP chief Khaleda Zia instantly rejected the proposal saying that the next polls must be held under a non-party caretaker government.
But Hanif said he was not frustrated at the rejection of the proposal. "We, the politicians, often take many decisions and change the decisions realising the reality. There is no final word in politics."
