Probe ordered for Ctg rail accident

Chittagong, Aug 9 - The government has formed a four-member committee to investigate Thursday's derailment of a Chittagong-bound train.
The accident snapped the rail links of the port city of Chittagong with Dhaka and Sylhet since 4:30 am when the accident took place.
Railway's East Zone Divisional Signal and Telecommunication Engineer Shushil Kumar Haldar heads the committee.
The accident occurred around 4:30 am when the Chittagong-bound Nasirabad Express derailed at a level-crossing at Fouzdarhat area near Chittagong city, East Zone Divisional Traffic Officer Jakir Hossain earlier told bdnews24.com .
He said that the engine and two of its coaches veered off the rail line after the speeding train hit a cement-laden truck that got stuck on the track.
"A recovery train from Laksham has reached the accident site and started work. We hope to resume operations later today," Hossain added.
He is also a member of the probe committee. Divisional Engineer Muhiuddin Arif and Divisional Mechanical Engineer Nur Mohammad also man the committee.
Chittagong Railway Station Manager Shamsul Alam said that six trains including Mohanagar Provati and Subarna Express were scheduled to leave Chittagong in the morning, but could not because of the accident.
Meanwhile, the Turna Nishitha from Dhaka, Udayan Express from Sylhet and another train could not reach Chittagong, Alam said.
