Protestors put off agitation

Dhaka, Aug 14 Admission-seekers demonstrating for the last two days against the government decision of enrolling students at medical and dental colleges on school grades postponed their agitation on Tuesday.
They called of their agitation after keeping Shahbagh intersection blocked for several hours. Since morning, they also staged demonstrations on Central Shaheed Minar premises and at Jatiya Press Club.
The blockade created tailback on several key city streets for hours, putting commuters and Eid shoppers in great distress.
They, however, lift their blockade and left Shahbagh area half an hour prior to Iftar.
The students pressed on with their agitation throughout Tuesday even though the High Court questioned the latest government provision.
"We have postponed the programme considering sufferings of the general people. We will not be on the streets for some more days as Aug 15 is the National Mourning Day and Eid vacation begins the day after," said 'Shantanu', one of the demonstrators.
The students, however, threatened to launch fresh agitation from Aug 27 if their demand is not met by then.
