JU VC demands judicial probe

\Jahangirnagar University, Aug 4  Jahangirnagar University Vice Chancellor has said a 'sinister force' was behind past week's campus violence and demanded judicial probe into the incidents.
"It is necessary to uncover the root cause of the unrests in the country's public universities. Why are they (those behind the unrest) trying to destroy the people's properties and what are their objectives? This will have to be identified," Prof Anwar Hossain told a media briefing on Saturday.
On Aug 1, the university students locked horns with law enforcers following stabbing of a Chhatra League leader. Traffic at the Dhaka-Aricha Highway was halted for nearly 15 hours as the students took their protests to the road.
Without naming anyone, Prof Hossain, who became the university's VC after Sharif Enamul Kabir had to resign following student-teacher protests, claimed a certain quarter was trying to disrupt peace in a pre-planned manner.
"A sinister force is intervening when Jahangirnagar University is advancing towards a development and brushed session-jams aside. They want to destroy the university," he said.
The new VC also felt that anti-liberation forces were behind the unrest at the Jahangirnagar University.
