Dhaka, Aug 14 The High Court has asked the government to explain its move to enrol students at the medical and dental colleges based on their SSC and HSC GPAs only and not test them for admission anymore. The bench of justices Naima Haider and Muhammad Khurshid Alam gave the ruling on Tuesday after holding a primary hearing on a petition filed by Advocate Yunus Ali Akondo, father of an admission seeker, a day before.
The Health Secretary, Education Secretary and the Directororate General of Health Services have been asked to respond to the rule within four weeks.
Health Minister AFM Ruhal Haque said on Sunday after a meeting that they decided to rescind admission test for medical and dental colleges and introduce new system of enrolling students based on their GPAs from this year. Under the new system, the students must have a GPA score of 8 from SSC and HSC examinations to be eligible to apply.
Admission-seekers and their parents are protesting the latest decision for the two following days in Dhaka and elsewhere. The protesters say they will call off their demonstrations if the High Court ruling on a plea challenging the latest decision went in
