Dhaka, Aug 13 The government decision to enrol students in medical and dental colleges based on GPAs in SSC and HSC examinations has been challenged at the High Court amidst protest by a group of admission seekers.
Petitioner Yunus Ali told bdnews24.com that he filed the petition on Monday.
The government decided to do away with admission tests and introduce new system of enrolling students in medical and dental colleges based on their GPAs from this year, Health Minister AFM Ruhal Haque had said on Sunday after a meeting with the officials of the Education Ministry and heads of medical colleges.
Earlier, on Monday a group of admission seekers staged hour-long sit-in demonstration at the Central Shaheed Minar protesting against the new admission system.
More than 200 students reportedly gathered in front of the Shaheed Minar around 10am and started demonstration. They staged sit-in demonstration from 1pm to 2pm.
The protesting students also announced to hold sit-in demonstration at the Central Shaheed Minar at 10am on Tuesday.
Under the new system the students must have a GPA score of 8 from SSC and HSC examinations to be eligible to apply.
