7 carjackers held in city

Wednesday, August 15, 2012 Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested seven carjackers with six motorcycles, a private car and one microbus during separate drives in the capital from August 12 to 14.
Among the arrestees, Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman Prince, 25, Mohammad Toufiqul Islam Ronti, 26, Faysal Hossain Tonmoy, 26, and Asibur Rahman, 20, were arrested at Tejgaon in the city, DB Assistant Commissioner Muntasir Rahman told The Daily Star on Wednesday.
Police also seized six stolen motor bikes from their possessions, the DB official said.
During another drive, the detectives nabbed Mohammad Selim, 24, Jamal Uddin, 24, and Al Bahar, 35, at Rupnagar in Mirpur, he added.
Following information extracted from the arrestees, police recovered the private car and the microbus from their possession.
During the primary interrogation DB came to know that Toufiqul and Foysal were engaged in robbing motor bikes for a long time. They led a group of about 30 carjackers.
The duo used to make fake papers for the stolen bikes through the brokers of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and sell those in market price, the DB official said.
