Jahangirnagar University, Aug 2 Authorities on Thursday shut Jahangirnagar University until Aug 25 as violence continued to rock the campus and nearby areas including the Dhaka-Aricha Highway. The Syndicate decided to announce the public university in Savar closed because of the Eid-ul-Fitr vacation a week earlier than schedule.
Male students were asked to leave their dormitories by 6pm Thursday while the female students would have until 9am Friday to do so.

The university turned violent after a Bangladesh Chhatra League activist was stabbed by criminals near the main entrance and police arrested another student on charge of the attack.
Angry students descended on the busy highway Wednesday midnight in protest and the blockade on the highway continued until Thursday afternoon, prompting the authorities to close the institution.
