Tk 222,491cr budget proposed

Finance Minister AMA Muhith has proposed a Tk 222,491-crore annual budget outlays for fiscal 2013-14 in what is the last budget of the Awami League-led grand alliance government.
Lawmakers of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) are not attending today’s session, which began at 3:00pm.

Titled ‘Four Years of Progress: Bangladesh Marches on’, the budget speech that came with a multimedia presentation began around 3:15pm.
The budget is 16 percent higher from the current fiscal year.
The revenue target of the budget has been set at Tk 1,67,459 crore while the budget deficit will be Tk 55,032cr, which is 4.6 percent of the gross domestic product.
Of the revenue, Tk 1,36,090cr is expected from NBR tax revenue, Tk 5,129cr from non-NBR tax revenue and Tk 26,240cr from non-tax revenue.
The government expects Tk 6,670cr in foreign grants.
Earlier in the afternoon, the cabinet at a special meeting at the parliament complex approved the budget with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Together with the copy of the finance minister’s budget speech, the government will release supporting documents to be downloadable from www.mof.gov.bd.
Feedback on the budget can be left behind on the website, which the finance ministry says would be taken into consideration.
