He came up with the observation while addressing a programme on ‘Advocacy Meeting on Freedom of the Media’ organized by Odhikar at Spectra Convention Centre of Gulshan in the city on Saturday.
Mazhar claimed the first constitution was ‘communal’ as the composers of the constitution called the state as “Bangalee State” whereas many other communities, including the Chakma, Marma were the inhabitants of the state.
He also said, “Secularism was not among the demands for which the Liberation War took place in 1971.”
Inclusion of secularism in the constitution caused a lot of problems for the last 42 years, Farhad added.
He also asked to compose a new constitution for the country.
Awami League Presidium Member Yusuf Hossain Humayun and Advisor to BNP Chairperson Dr Osman Faruk also spoke.
