President Abdul Hamid advocate administered the oath at 5:00pm at Bangabhaban.
Earlier, Chumki was discharging her duties as Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
She was elected as a member of the parliament from Gazipur-5 constituency in general election in 2008.
Source said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in a meeting of Awami League Parliamentary Board, expressed positive approach to give Chumki the charges of state minister of the ministry.
The meeting was held at Gano Bahaban on Saturday night with the premier in the chair.
After the meeting, the appointment of Chumki as state minister has been finalized, said sources.
Earlier on April 30, the post of State Minister for Women and Children Affairs fell vacant after Dr Shirin Sharmeen Chawdhury has taken oath as the country’s first female Speaker.
