Ashraful admits spot-fixing guilt

DHAKA: The whole nation has become speechless, after hearing that some renowned cricketers, on whom the nation had always looked forward to, were involved in spot-fixing.

Mohammad Ashraful, country’s youngest Test centurion in 2001 at the age of 17 and who captained Bangladesh between 2007 and 2009, has admitted his guilt of spot-fixing to ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) officers.

At the same time, he told the ICC officials some other names of Bangladeshi players who were involved in spot-fixing.

Ashraful said, “The matter is under ACSU investigation. They called me. I answered what they wanted to know.”

A reliable source in Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said that Ashraful expected a guide line from BCB before ICC quizzing, but he didn’t get any. So he told everything to ACSU whishing less punishment.

Some media reported Ashraful told ACSU that he entered the dark world of spot-fixing with the help of former cricketer Khaled Masud Pilot, Khaled Mahmud Sujon and Mohammad Rafiq.

However Khaled Masud Pilot ruled out his involvement in spot-fixing while talking to banglanews.

Ruling out the allegation, Khaled Mahmud Sujon said, “This can never happen. I introduced nobody with spot-fixers. Once a man called me for Tamim Iqbal’s cell number and I gave him the number after asking Tamim. And later I heard from Tamim that the caller was a bookie.”
