Home Affairs Minister Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir placed the before the parliament and passed it by voice-vote amid opposition walkout.
Regarding the bill, BNP lawmaker Barrister Moudud Ahmed said, “This is completely a black law. It is being passed to harass the opposition leaders and activists.”
Earlier in the day, some 11 opposition lawmakers and a lone independent parliamentarian brought some amendments to different sections of the bill and requested the chair to send it for eliciting public opinion.
But, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Choudhury rejected the proposals.
The minister said the existing Anti-Terrorism Act, 2013 was promulgated in 2009 to prevent various forms of terrorism like killing, carrying and use of arms and ammunition and other flammable objects to create panic and checking terror financing as well.
