BNP men attack Rajapur Thana 9 cops among many inured

JHALAKATI: At least nine police personnel were injured as opposition BNP activists attacked Rajapur Police Station of the district on Saturday afternoon.
Of the injured, Sub-Inspector Atikur Rahman was admitted to Rajapur Upazila Health Complex and Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam while the rest were given primary treatment.
Witnesses said the leaders and activists of the BNP brought out a protest procession as part of their central programme around 4:00pm.
Police obstructed the procession when it reached in front of Old Jail of the district and the angry activists of the party threw brickbats at the police.

Sources said police held some BNP men and brought them to the thana and later the angry leaders and activists attacked the police station, leaving nine police personnel injured.

Later, some opposition men were also injured when police opened fire some rubber bullets to disperse them, said a spot account of the incident.

Rajapur Upazila BNP General Secretary Advocate Talukder Abul Kalam Azad told banglanews that they did not attack police station. “Some 50 leaders and activists were injured as police charged baton,” he said.

Sub-Inspector of the thana told banglanews that police held 19 BNP men after the incident.
