PM urges police Discharge duties with sincerity


RAJSHAHI: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday categorically said police personnel have to discharge their duties properly through maintaining all legal and professional obligations.

“I hope police force will be a real symbol of the people’s expectation and play a pivotal role in eliminating crimes from the society to materializing the Vision 2021,” she said.

The premier came up with the observation while addressing the passing out parade of the newly recruited Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of the 30th BCS (police) batch at Bangladesh Police Academy in Rajshahi on Thursday morning.

Sheikh Hasina said, “Whenever Awami League got the responsibility for running the government, it worked for building a well-disciplined, responsible, accountable and pro-people police force.”

Highlighting the government steps for the development of the police force, she said her government has formed industrial police, while the work on constitution of tourist police, campus police and marine police would complete soon.

The Awami League president also said, “The incumbent government decided to create 32,000 new posts including cadre and non-cadre for the police force.”

She added: “As many as 27, 778 new posts including 500 cadre posts have already been created thus increased capabilities of providing service by the police manifold.”

Earlier in the day, the premier was given guard of honour by a smartly- turned out contingent of the police force. She reviewed the parade and took salute.

On her arrival, the Prime Minister was received by Home Minister Dr MK Alamgir, State Minister for Home Advocate Shamsul Haque Tuku, IGP Hasan Mahmud Khandaker and Principal of the Academy Nayeem Ahmed.
