Elevated expressway work starts in August: Minister

Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said on Tuesday the construction of much-talked-about elevated expressway will begin in August.
According to the modified plan, the length of the expressway will be 40 kilometers, the minister told journalists at his ministry after a meeting held on minimising the traffic jam ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr.
The construction work of the project would be completed in three phases, reports the Bangla daily Prothom Alo quoting the minister.

In first phase, eight kilometres route from Shahjalal International Airport to Tejgaon would be constructed while eight kilometre from Tejgaon to Kamalapur and seven kilometres from Kamalapur to Kutubkhali of Shanirakhra would be completed in second and third phases respectively, the minister added.
The project will have 33 lanes and each of those will be 17 kilometres long.
The total expenditure of the project was estimated Tk 8,703 crore.
The government will have to spend Tk 2,258 crore in the project which was based on the Public Private Partnership (PPP). The amount would be paid in six phases, the minister added.
