Dulu arrested after gunfight in Natore


Natore, Dec 9  Police arrested BNP leader and former deputy minister Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu after two people were injured following a clash between BNP and Awami League activists in Natore.
Natore District Police SP Kaymuzzaman said the clash broke out in front of District BNP President Dulu's residence in Alaipur at around 11pm on Saturday night. Gunfights and cocktail detonations were reported.
Town Juba League Joint Secretary Palash, 32, and District Shechhwashebak League President Dewan Shaheed were bullet wounded.
Law enforcers encircled Dulu's residence and a team led by Sadr Circle Senior Assistant Police SP Apel Mahmud entered at around 12:15am. Police searched his house for almost an hour.
Police took Dulu along with three other BNP activists Aslam, Ahmedul and Shameem into custody at around 1am.
Police SP said they were held over shooting Juba League leader Palash.
Awami League activists said Palash was admitted to Natore Sadr Hospital with bullet injuries in his back. He was later shifted to RMCH in critical condition. On the other hand Shaheen was wounded in his ear.
Natore District BNP General Secretary Aminul Haque claimed JL activists pounced at Dulu's house with the intention of killing him. "However, police without arresting them... arrested us (BNP activists)."
Natore Sadr Police Station OC Abdul Al Mamun said BNP activists were held over specific complaints. "The incident is being investigated."
