Savar tragedy Death toll rises to 1079


SAVAR, DHAKA: The death toll rose to 1079 in Savar Rana Plaza collapse with the recovery of two more bodies from the rubble till 7:30am Saturday on the 18th day of the incident.
Of them, a total of 780 bodies were identified and handed over to their families.
Confirming the death toll and body handover, Army control room said fire fighters, Red Crescent men led-by Army recovered two more decomposed bodies till 7:30am.
Meanwhile, some 61 bodies were kept at Adharchandra School ground for hand over while 85 bodies at Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue.
In the other hand, 156 bodies were buried through Anjuman-e-Mofidul Islam, a charitable organisation, as those were decomposed beyond recognition.

Besides, a total of 2, 439 people were rescued alive from the debris. Amongst them, a girl named Reshma was rescued alive from debris of Rana Plaza at 4:25pm Friday on 17th day of collapse.
  
She is now undergoing treatment at Savar Combined Military Hospital.

Rescuers suspected that more bodies remained trapped under the collapsed building.

Rescue team is conducting the 2nd phase of the rescue operation with heavy equipments continued for the 13th consecutive day to recover last body from the rubble in the collapsed nine-storied building.

Earlier on April 24, the 9-storied building--Rana Plaza collapsed in Savar bus stand area of Dhaka which housed five garment factories, a branch of bank and a market.
