Danger signal down to ‘3’

The danger level has been lowered to ‘3’ on a scale of 10 for the ports as cyclone Mahasen weakens causing enormous rainfall in Noakhali, Sitakunda, Feni and Khagrachharhi districts.
The cyclone is currently blowing over the Chittagong Hill Tracts areas.
Meteorological Department Director Mohammad Shah Alam told bdnews24.com that the cyclone had reduced to a depression after 3pm and was now expected to cause rainfall in Tripura in India.

“Hopefully, the situation will further improve with time,” he said.

The cyclone caused by a depression in the Bay of Bengal crossed Khepuparha coast in Patuakhali at 9am Thursday.

Then it breezed past the Meghna estuary to cross Noakhali and Sitakunda in Chittagong in the afternoon.

Alam said the Met Office directed the Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar port to lower the danger signal from ‘7’ as the cyclone is losing its impact there.

He, however, advised those taking shelter in camps not to return to their home until the storm completely passed.

“All water vehicles will have to remain in safe distance for the next two days as the sea is still rough,” he said.
