At least 30 tailor outfitters and shops were gutted and five people, including a firefighter, injured when a fire swept through a market in Narayanganj city early Tuesday.
The fire originated around 5:00am on the ground floor of two-storey Sher-e-Bangla Market, our Narayanganj correspondent reported quoting locals and Fire Service and Civil Defence officials.
Nine firefighting units from Haziganj, Mondalpara and Demra fire services rushed to the spot and doused the fire after one and a half hours of frantic efforts, KM Saiful Islam, deputy director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, told The Daily Star.

Fire gutted 16 cloth shops on the ground floor and 14 tailor outfitters on the second floor of the building, he added.
Five people, including a firefighter, were injured while trying to douse the fire.
The fire might have originated from electric short circuit or mosquito coil, the fire service official said.
The injured received primary treatment from a local hospital.
