Two suspected criminals were killed in a “shootout” between their cohorts and the members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in the capital’s Uttara area early Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Jahirul Islam, 28, and Saju Akand, 25. They were members of an armed gang, said Cap Avisheikh Ahmed, deputy director of Legal and Media Wing of Rab headquarters.

The members of elite force also recovered two pistols, six bullets, three machetes and one hammer from the spot.
The “shootout” ensued around 4:00am when a patrol team of Rab-1 signalled a microbus to stop it on Sonargaon Road in Sector-11 of Uttara, a Rab official claimed.
The members of elite force opened fire on the criminals when they spread bullet defying the Rab signal.
At one stage of “shootout”, the criminals stopped the microbus and two of the gang fled the scene.
Later, the Rab personnel searching the microbus found two bodies, the Rab official claimed.
