Dhaka, Aug 4 BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged all on Saturday not to create controversies over the deceased popular contemporary fiction writer Humayun Ahmed. "Who are filing cases over his death or trying to belittle him, I would ask them please refrain from these," he said at a discussion in the city
The celebrated writer and filmmaker died at a New York hospital on Jul 19 while undergoing treatment. He was 64.
"Nobody can harm Humayun by creating controversy over his personal life or property. With his unique creative works Humayun Ahmed successfully brought Bengali literature close to the people of Bangladesh." The BNP leader said.
"He has become evergreen to the Bangladeshi people through his writings and will remain so," Fakhrul added.
BNP's front organisation Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sanskritik Jote organised the discussion in memory of the deceased writer.
On Thursday, a Chittagong lawyer filed a case at the Port City's metropolitan court blaming Humayun's widow Meher Afroz Shaon and Anyaprakash publishing house owner Mazharul Islam for his death.
At the discussion on Saturday Poet Abdul Hai Shikder vented his anger over the case. "It is really unfortunate that a case has been filed over the death of a popular writer. I've heard that a case has been filed in a Chittagong metropolitan court where I've been made a witness though I was not consulted. I am sad and angry as Humayun's family is over the issue," Shikder said.
The BNP spokesperson Fakhrul said Humayun secured his place in the hearts of millions of Bengali speaking people with his 'outstanding creative' works.
He said the deceased writer inspired young generation to read books other than textbooks. "He inspired youth to read books during a barren political era."
